Maido

So I visited this restaurant in April of 2022 when it was ranked 5th in the world and 1st in South America. Now, in 2025 it's 1st in the world. I figured I would give a delayed review, due to it being an unforgettable experience. We've had 10-15-course wine pairing meals before, but nothing like this experience. We had to reserve 6 months before for 5 people. We were told it would be best to secure spots for the exact day we were visiting Lima, Peru. If you want to experience a world-topping sensory culinary journey, this is it. If you appreciate bold flavors and craftsmanship, and carefully selected wine pairings, this is it. The dining room is open-floor and modern, but lacks intimacy, you can easily see what others are feasting. The dress code is formal, due to attracting tourists. Service is very friendly, meticulous, and informative about each course presented, if you're the curious type of eater. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, will visit again in 2032!

After being on the waiting list for a while, we decided to try our luck as a walk in customer. We were so fortunate that there was a slot and we were able to have an early dinner. As the 2025 number one restaurant in the world, we had high expectations. The staff were professional, friendly and explained clearly how we should eat each dish to get the best culinary experience. Each dish gave an amazing taste that is hard to describe and it is no wonder that this is the top restaurant in the world. All dishes were amazing, but my favourite was the scallop with urchin.

Such a fun and tasty dinner! The experience was great.. each course was delicious, a little adventurous, and my favorite part was the use of texture in every dish!! They are booked constantly so their reservations are strict and they should be! Timing of dishes was great and the sake selection is good.

We visited the restaurant for the Maido Experience after it got given the #1 Restaurant in the World Award and were not disappointed at all. It was a truly unique experience from the moment we walked in until we left, from the staff greeting until the last goodbye. The restaurant is very tastefully decorated, with exquisite table setting and plates. The dining experience was phenomenal, with 14 different wonderful bites to try, each one with an amazing taste, texture, presentation, combination of flavours and of course a wonderful introduction by our waiter. It took us about 2 hours to go through each dish, with the perfect timing in between dishes for you to eat, savour, take in, enjoy and discuss with your friends. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and can’t wait to come back, next time maybe to focus on a dish or two. We consider ourselves very fortunate for having the opportunity to experience something like this. Thank you Misha for making it possible.

The presentation and creativity at Maido are absolutely world-class—each dish looked like a piece of art and told a story. The ambiance is modern, stylish, and comfortable, perfect for a high-end dining experience. We had the tasting menu, and about 75% of the dishes were excellent—balanced flavors, elegant textures, and surprising combinations. However, a few items leaned a bit too salty for our taste, which slightly threw off the balance. Despite that, the service was impeccable, and the pacing of the courses was spot-on. The attention to detail in both the plating and the service really shows why Maido is one of the top restaurants in Lima. Would still recommend it for a unique culinary experience—just be prepared for some bold seasoning. Solid 4 stars!

Unbelievable experience!! Nikkei cuisine is a synthesis between the culinary tradition of Peru and that of Japan. A style that melted into a dish gives harmonies of colors, flavors, and aromas with the best of the two countries, so different in appearance. Nikkei cuisine puts the delicacy and fantasy of the Japanese culinary tradition on the table with the strong, vibrant, and spicy flavors of Peru.

There are truly no words to fully capture this experience. It exceeded every expectation. The service was impeccable, and the presentation was extraordinary. Each course had its own unique display. The food was absolutely delicious, and the ambiance was so nice. One of my favorite details was that for each course, the waiter brought a small basket with sample vegetables and fruits used in the dish, allowing us to see, touch, and understand exactly what we were eating. Since reservations are difficult to secure, we were only able to book seats at the bar, and I am so glad we did. Sitting there made the experience even more special. The chefs shared stories about the restaurant, about Micha, and about their own lives, making the evening feel intimate and personal. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience, and I completely understand why they are ranked the #1 restaurant in the world. I hope to return one day, and when I do, I will absolutely choose to sit at the bar again.
